Winter Farm Update 2021

As I type this the current temp is zero degrees...

but, I thought I would share with you what winter on the farm means for us beyond shoveling snow, keeping water defrosted and making sure the animals have enough food and dry bedding to stay warm.

Winter is actually our time for planning, improvements, and to (hopefully) catch our breath before the excitement and busyness of spring jump starts again.

But, unlike crop farmers we don’t get to tuck all the equipment away in the barn and sit tight until the thaw. Animals still need to be cared for, milk jugs filled, the shop is still open, vendors are bringing new products and planning for the next 12 months has already been solidified with preparations in full swing.

Currently on the 2021 Calendar:
  • One new cow, Dela, join the herd this month
  • Several more will be added in the coming year
  • 1 Shop Small Saturday
  • 3 Free Range Friends Potlucks
  • 6 Friends & Family Nights
  • 7 calves are on the way to being born (Starting end of March)
  • 18 locker dates for Livestock in 2021 with dates currently scheduled through 2023
  • 18 trips to pick up meat for the Farmers Market Shop
  • 20 Barnyard Story Times
  • 34+ Wellness Events
  • 40 Turkeys are scheduled to order
  • 368+ open shop hours
  • 500 Broiler Chickens being ordered

There is no winter hibernation for these farmers! But, we love what we do. We count it a privilege to serve our community and help feed your family well. So in the meantime, between the snow and spring, we are working hard to make it all happen for you. Thank you for supporting our farm and being a part of this wonderful community.

Mindy & Kyle
